Happy Xmas

There is a new Randy the Cat to help you celebrate the holiday season. I suppose if a three-panel comic contributes significantly to your celebration of the holiday season, you must not have very many family and friends. Sorry, dude, that's tough.

Ooh Girl You Know It's True

This Holiday Season, show that special someone you care by presenting her with your dick in a box.

The thing that makes this extra hilarious is that it is actually Justin Timberlake singing about wrapping his dick in a box. I am not a big fan of him musically, but I believe he is one of those rare guests who has genuine comic timing and will cooperate well with the cast and writers.

There is a great (but quite long) article in the NY Times this week about philanthropy, addressing issues about morality, why developing countries are so poor, and the role of individuals versus governments. It is a facinating article that makes me feel like I really ought to be donating more money to causes I believe are important.

Fat Charlie

Just tonight, I finished reading The Anansi Boys, a novel by Neil Gaiman. I picked this up on the recommendation of Steppanwolf and enjoyed it greatly. I figure I can save a lot of writing time by simply saying this:

You know how on the back covers of books there are little blurbs from respectable people gushing about the novel and telling you what a talent the writer is? The stuff written on the back of this book is pretty much true. Comparisons to Douglas Adams - as well as the great-grandfather of Adams' style, P.G. Wodehouse - are both fair and accurate.

Speaking of Douglas Adams, I was wondering around YouTube and came across what appears to be Arthur Dent singing The Cure's "Just Like Heaven" while accompanying himself on a ukulele. It's somehow reassuring to note that he's still having considerable trouble with his lifestyle.

Clake Is On Last.fm

It's internet radio. It's social networking. It's the best of both! Like myspace, only I'm actually getting some tangible entertainment value out of it.

Unnecessary Data
posted by clake at 4:27 PM (0) comments

A ray of light is peeking into my cubicle, and it's passing through either blowing powder snow or heat exhaust so it looks all waverly. It's illuminating the resident rotation schedule as if to say "the resident rotation schedule is maaaagiiiiiic." Really, this sort of treatment would be far more appropriate for a sword lodged in a rock.

In other news. Recently Rolling Stone's Elizabeth Goodman was all like:
We never thought the day would come when we'd be forced to say that Robert Smith reminds us of that dude from Panic! At the Disco, but it has. Smith's recent objection to those who would classify the Cure as "goth" recalls Panic!'s incensed claims that their band can not be confined by such limiting terms as "emo." "It is pitiful when goth is still tagged onto the name The Cure" Smith reportedly sniffed. "We're not categorizable... How can you describe a band that put out an album like Pornography and also Greatest Hits where every single song was top 10 around the world? I just play Cure music, whatever it is." Well OKAY then.
And I was all like, "Calling The Cure a goth band is like calling Morrissey a 'Morrissey Impersonator'. " (Scroll down. It's at 12/7/2006, 3:19 pm EST.) Looks like the chance to work both The Cure and Morrissey into a one-sentance comment on someone's blog finally came my way. Don't mess with my boyfriends, 'Lizabeth!

The patron saint of blog comments weeps at the inaninty of it all. I'm sorry if you came across this while doing a search for some sort of term paper. There is no useful information here.

The Wars (2000)
posted by clake at 4:07 PM (0) comments

A friend's Star Wars-inspired short video, in which I appear as the stock "insecure megalomaniacal dictator" has suddenly popped up on the YouTube. What will they think of next?

The Wars (first half) / The Wars (second half)

This video includes:
  • Me wearing eye makeup and getting smacked around by my future wife
  • SUV-as-airplace-cockpit low budget goodness
  • A girl getting stabbed to death with a banana
  • Esplosions
  • A blissed-out teen exclaiming, "I like dirt! I like dirt!"

I wish I could explain my utter failure to sound evil and intimidating? Maybe that was just an odd acting choice I made.

Director: I need you to sound like an evil, dictatorial sadist.

Me: Sure thing! Sort of a "Katherine Hepburn" thing, right? I real "woman scorned" type.

Director: Not exactly.

Me: More of a "Katherine Hepburn inhales helium" sort of thing? I see where you're going with this. Nice. "Katherine Hepburn's little sister - and she's pissed!"
