The Friday Evening Post
posted by clake at 6:17 PM

With my wife pregnant, and a season of weddings on the horizon, I thought you might like an update on the details of our life together.

Klake continues to carry a baby inside of her, and desperately wants it to come out. Pregnancy is in some ways a very exciting venture, and in other ways like an illness. Also, we're both very enthused to finally have this invisible sidekick join the team for real.

It is a little strange looking ahead into the great mystery of what sorts of things are going to be happening in years to come with an additional human member of the family. As we drove home from work tonight, Klake wondered about the possibility that, if we get the child into a good school district, he'll feel poorer than all his friends. We aren't really poor - I'm feeling fairly financially secure right now - but we don't do a lot of the weird-ass spending that a lot of other people do on designer stuff, and I like to think I'll make it so that little Baby Lake never sends a text message until he's 22 years old. In the end of our conversation, though, we both felt that children are pretty good at picking up on stuff, and he'll know that we're just outstandingly cheap, not poor.

Dinner time. See ya, guys.

Comments:
I think your kid will have a good grasp of the value of money and realistic expectations of the things that you will provide for him. And there's always someone who has more than you ... consider it a life lesson.

Also concerning kids and money, I believe it best to shield children from any real financial strife the family may experience (whenever possible). They have their whole adult life to worry about money and, as children, can do nothing to contribute to the family financially. Better that they focus on playing and learning and having fun.

I'm looking forward to meeting the new Lake. I am glad that Aeryk and I will be closer so we can watch him grow up. I keep thinking that we will hear something anyday now!

Congrats on the new baby!
I'm guessing you'll call him 'plake' on the blog? Hope his second day is going well.
