A local-option sales tax passed in my county yesterday, despite my inability to get my lazy ass to a polling station and do my duty as a citizen. Sorry about that. Glad to hear it passed anyway, though. Good to know that my son will be adequately educated even though I couldn't be bothered to complete an arrow with a pencil. I'll vote on the next thing, guys.

I've finally gotten around to reading another book in the Nerd Canon of Texts: Frank Herbert's Dune. I'm maybe a third of the way through, but since I'm so bad at actually getting a review posted here after reading a book, I figure I should put up my review while I'm thinking of it:

Yes, I am indeed liking this novel very much. There is a lot of detail about the social/political/scientific facts of life on the planet Arrakis for a kind of nerdy guy to get excited about. I believe the David Lynch film had a giant, telepathic worm-person in a glass tank. Will that be included in this book, because I haven't come across it so far? That, and the image of Dean Stockwell's mouth - seen far too close up - whispering "Rememberrrr the toooth" are the only two things I recall about the movie. Also Sting. This movie happened when Sting was thinking he should perhaps be an actor instead of a singer.
