Humans as self-domesticated apes
posted by klake at 3:52 PM

I read a freakishly large amount of news, and I figured I should be sharing one great article each day to my blogfriends. Today's article:

Nice rats, nasty rats: Maybe it is in the genes
An article about a Russian study breeding rats, foxes, etc. for tameness and viciousness to compare the genetic makeup. The goal is to see if common traits of domesticated animals, such as floppy ears, were selected inadvertently by Neolithic humans trying to breed pleasant animals. Also mentioned: a researcher who believes that humans have domesticated themselves using similar techniques.
